No matter which direction he chooses to go, Cory Schneider is going to have one of the most visually appealing masks in the NHL next season.

The New Jersey Devils goaltender is in the midst of holding a mask design competition. The competition, which began at the end of July, is now on to its second stage, with Schneider narrowing down the submissions to his five favorites. From one to five, each of the frontrunners brings something different to the table, be it devil horns or references to the history of New Jersey.

Take a look:

The first mask uses a simple, clean style and the addition of some handy design work to show what the mask would look like on Schneider is a nice touch. From there, though, the designs get more intense, like the one seen on the second entrant’s hellhound design.

The devil-centric designs are a staple of the masks until we reach the final entrant, which focuses more on Garden State musical history than it does on the Devils’ moniker. There’s the standard brick wall background, but on the left side is an outline of the state of New Jersey with a small devil placed in Newark where the Devils play. On the right, there’s a guitar, hat and microphone, all representing different musicians from the state. The microphone represents Jon Bon Jovi, the fedora is for Frank Sinatra and the guitar for Bruce Springsteen.

The winner of the mask design contest will be announced Aug. 14, with the victorious designer receiving four tickets to a Devils home game, a meet and greet with Schneider and an autographed goalie stick.
