Senators sign defenceman Matt Carkner to US$1.4-million, two-year extension

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators signed defenceman Matt Carkner to a US$1.4-million, two-year contract extension Tuesday.

The 28-year-old native of Winchester, Ont., has recorded two points (one goal, one assist), 19 blocked shots and 19 penalty minutes in seven games this season.

Carkner is averaging just over 18 minutes of ice time per game.

The six-foot-four, 231-pounder played one game with the Sens last season but did not record a point.

Carkner had 21 points (3-18) and 210 penalty minutes in 67 games with AHL Binghamton last season.
