Through four games of a six-game road trip, the San Jose Sharks have rattled off four consecutive wins. But they’ll be without a key member of the team Saturday when they look to stretch the streak to five.

San Jose GM Doug Wilson announced Saturday morning, via the Sharks website, that coach Peter DeBoer will not be behind the bench Saturday evening. Wilson did not expand on what was keeping DeBoer from the game, saying only that it was personal reasons. Assistant coaches Steve Spott, Bob Boughner and Johan Hedberg will handle coaching duties in DeBoer’s absence.

DeBoer was hired by the Sharks in the off-season after the club decided to part ways with now-Edmonton Oilers coach Todd McLellan. In 2014-15, the Sharks missed the post-season for the first time in 10 seasons, and San Jose has had somewhat of a resurgence under DeBoer. Through 19 games, the Sharks’ 22 points have them in second place in the Pacific Division and they’re looking like a threat to at the very least challenge for a wild-card spot.

DeBoer was previously the bench boss of the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils. The Devils fired DeBoer in December 2014 during the holiday break. At the time of his firing, DeBoer’s Devils were 26th in the league with a 12-17-7 record and 31 points through 36 games.

The Sharks will also play Sunday in Columbus, but there’s no word about DeBoer’s status for the tilt against the Blue Jackets.
