Sheldon Brookbank wins Eddie Shore Award as top AHL defenceman

Brookbank, 26, of Lanigan, Sask., leads AHL defencemen and is third on the Admirals roster in scoring with 51 points including 14 goals. His 37 assists are also tops among league blue-liners, as are his six game-winning goals, two of which have come in overtime.

"Sheldon is a tremendous leader for us, both one and off the ice, and he has been a key to the success we have had here the last two seasons," said Admirals coach Claude Noel. "The leadership and responsibility he has shown has elevated his game and we have become a better team because of it."

The Admirals captain earned his first NHL recall this season when the Nashville Predators summoned him for a three-game stint in early February. He had a goal and an assist for Canada in the 2007 all-star game, and last week he was named to the AHL's first all-star team.
