Six players missing at Habs practice Friday as injuries mount

BROSSARD, Que. - Six players were missing at practice Friday as injuries mount on the Montreal Canadiens.

Goaltender Carey Price (flu), captain Saku Koivu (lower body), defencemen Mathieu Dandenault (broken arm) and Mike Komisarek (shoulder) and wingers Christopher Higgins (shoulder) and Georges Laraque (lower body) are all sidelined.

The Canadiens called up centre Ben Maxwell from AHL Hamilton and he will see his first NHL action Saturday night against the visiting Washington Capitals.

Koivu was injured during Montreal's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday night.

An MRI exam will determine how long he will be out but coach Guy Carbonneau said he will miss at least the next two or three games.

Hamilton goalie Marc Denis is on standby in case Price is unable to dress for Saturday's game.
