Slumping Blues visit defending champs

St Louis (13-17-3) at Detroit (22-6-4), 7:30 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Blues have a tough task in

front of them, trying to end their struggles against the

defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Blues will hope to avoid their seventh loss in eight games

when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

After ending a five-game losing streak a day earlier, St. Louis

suffered a 6-3 setback to the Boston Bruins on Sunday. Jay

McClement had a shorthanded goal for the Blues, who own the

worst record in the Western Conference.

The Red Wings will not provide an easy solution to St. Louis'

problems. Detroit is looking for its third straight win after

rallying past the Los Angeles Kings, 6-4, on Saturday.

Jiri Hudler, Daniel Cleary and Kris Draper all scored in the

final four minutes for the Red Wings, who have won seven of

their last nine.

Detroit captain Nicklas Lidstrom had three assists Saturday to

move past Larry Robinson into eighth place on the career points

list for defensemen with 960. He also moved past Denis Potvin

into eighth place for career assists by a blue-liner with 744.

"It means a lot," Lidstrom said. "Those are players I had a

chance to watch. I admired them and looked up to them. It's

something I'm proud of."
