Star centre Jason Spezza may miss Thursday's game with groin injury

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators could be without star centre Jason Spezza when they host the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday night.

Spezza missed practice Wednesday after sustaining a slight groin pull in Tuesday's skate. Spezza is second on the Senators with 13 points (1-12) in 10 games.

"It happened yesterday and right now it doesn't feel that good," Spezza told reporters Wednesday. "We're just going to kind of take it day by day."

While Spezza may not dress, veteran forward Dean McAmmond declared himself fit to play. He's missed all 10 games this season while recovering from a concussion and shoulder injury suffered when Philadelphia Flyers forward Steve Downie ran him in pre-season.

Veteran forward Randy Robitaille took Spezza's spot on the top line with Daniel Alfredsson and Dany Heatley but head coach John Paddock wasn't sure that would stick for Thursday's game.
