BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Dallas Stars' usually dependable defense
has been anything but thus far this season.
Dallas hopes to halt its defensive woes when it visits the
Boston Bruins in the second game of a five-game road trip on
The Stars, who have finished in the top six in the league in
goals-against average each of the last five seasons, rank
dead-last (4.09 GAA) in the NHL this campaign.
Tobias Stephan allowed five goals on 27 shots in Dallas' 5-2
setback at Chicago on Friday. It was the sixth time this season
the Stars have surrendered at least five goals in a contest.
The Bruins, who are not much of an offensive team, return home
after a 2-1-0 road trip to the Pacific Northwest. Boston posted
back-to-back 1-0 victories over Edmonton and Vancouver before
losing, 3-2, to Calgary on Thursday.
Tim Thomas started each game on the road trip and leads the team
with a 1.95 GAA as he starts to establish himself as the No. 1
goaltender ahead of Manny Fernandez.
Marc Savard leads Boston with nine assists and 14 points. He
has set up at least one goal in four straight games.
