Steve Gainey, Marc Denis lead Hamilton past Philadelphia 3-2

PHILADELPHIA - Steve Gainey scored what proved to be the game-winner eighteen seconds into the third period and Marc Denis made 27 saves as the Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Philadelphia Phantoms 3-2 in American Hockey League action Monday.

After a scoreless first, Hamilton got on the board at 1:37 of the second period after David Desharnais buried a rebound past Philadelphia goalie Scott Munroe.

The Phantoms (29-23-1-1) tied the game just over three minutes later when Danny Syvret blasted a shot past Denis.

Hamilton (32-20-2-0) regained the lead at 13:57 of the second on a Ben Maxwell shot that just squeezed through Munroe's pads before Gainey gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead early in the third.

Philadelphia pulled one back just under two minutes later when an Oskars Bartulis shot bounced off the Phatoms' Nate Raduns and past Denis, but could get no closer.
