Steven Stamkos waits, circles, scores highlight reel goal

Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos can do things that few players in the world can, and he put on a display last night, shaking Ottawa’s Kyle Turris and waiting out goaltender Robin Lehner for a highlight reel goal.

Steven Stamkos is the kind of superstar that can make other team’s stars look silly. Take his goal on Sunday night, for example.

The Tampa Bay Lightning sniper picked up a puck on the right wing and was met by Ottawa Senators center Kyle Turris. Turris gave chase to Stamkos, who circled behind the net, wove through a few defenders, waited out goaltender Robin Lehner, and tucked the puck into the back of the net.

Not even Sun Sports Lightning’s Rick Peckham could believe the goal, thinking somehow the puck had found its way over the goal or out the other side. Can you really blame him, though? Peckham probably thought there was no way Stamkos just did what he saw.

The goal was Stamkos’ 21st of the season, and puts him on pace for 42 goals this year. Which, amazingly, would be the lowest full-season total for Stamkos since his rookie season.
