Stone scores, Irving makes 29 saves as Abbotsford Heat defeat Americans 1-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Ryan Stone scored and Leland Irving made 29 saves as the Abbotsford Heat beat the Rochester Americans 1-0 in American Hockey League action Tuesday.

Stone scored the game's only goal on a power play at 8:12 of the second period, seven seconds after Rochester's Bates Battaglia was called for a hooking penalty.

T.J. Brodie passed the puck to Stone, who drilled a slapshot past Rochester goaltender Jacob Markstrom for his first goal of the season.

The Americans had a chance to tie it when Abbotsford was assessed a delay of game penalty with less than two minutes to play, but the Americans couldn't solve Irving.

Abbotsford improved to 16-12-3 and moved into second place in the North Division, one point behind the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Markstrom made 26 saves for the Americans, who fell to 12-14-3.
