Support your local teams

Michael Dockery, Salem, Ind.

I live in an area where people tend to think of hockey fans as odd.

High school/college basketball and football is all that is on everyone's mind.

Naturally, our local news media give little to no hockey news and unless you have select cable channels you never see a game until NBC's broadcasts start in February.

Thankfully, I found there are some local leagues and the University of Louisville's club to fill the hockey void in this area. Unfortunately, these under-appreciated groups get no recognition.

I just wanted to remind the hockey fans in areas like mine to search out and support the local leagues that may exist in their towns.

It may not be quite pro hockey, but these local groups work just as hard and are just as much fun to watch.
