If Donald Trump needs a break from hitting the campaign trail in his attempt to become President of the United States, the Syracuse Crunch have made him an offer that’s too good to be true.
In a video released on Syracuse’s YouTube page this week, Crunch chief financial officer Vance Lederman issued a challenge to the presidential hopeful: come coach the Crunch and, if you can succeed in pro hockey, maybe people can begin to take you seriously as a candidate. It’s not your typical challenge, either, where Lederman pulls punches. The Crunch CFO teases Trump’s hair, borrows Trump’s catchphrase and takes a shot at Trump’s candidacy.
“You running for president is like me, this Brooklyn boy right here, being a professional hockey coach,” Lederman says in the video. “So, Donald, here’s what I’m going to do, I’ve got an offer for you: you’re a big man, you want to be for all the people, I invite you to come to Syracuse to learn to be a professional hockey coach.”
The whole thing has the feel of a wrestling promo, which is funny considering Trump has had his run-ins inside the squared circle before. It seems unlikely Trump will actually accept the invitation and show up at the War Memorial to coach the Crunch, but it’s hard to really rule it out. Again, Trump was involved with the WWE, so is a cameo behind the bench really that farfetched?
"Trump's a guy who has done things very untraditional so far," Syracuse owner Howard Dolgon told syracuse.com’s Lindsay Kramer. "It certainly wouldn't shock us if he took us up on a Brooklyn guy's offer. Hopefully it's something he'll pursue."
And if he doesn’t, it seems Dolgon has no qualms trying to rile Trump up.
Here’s hoping we see Trump accept the offer because that surely wouldn’t be a game to miss.
