The Colorado Avalanche have a big season ahead, and in time for the 2015-16 campaign, the club will be unveiling some new threads.
According to Icethetics, the Avalanche are in line for at least one new jersey this upcoming season before the club hits the ice for the Stadium Series contest against the Detroit Red Wings in February, with the possibility of a second alternate. With two new uniforms on the way, it was only a matter of time before we got a sneak peek at what might be in store for the Avalanche, and, courtesy of Icethetics, we now have a first look at what could be worn for the Stadium Series:
It’s important to keep in mind that this jersey is a rendering by Icethetics’ own Chris Smith and not the official release by the Avalanche, but with how in tune Smith is when it comes to jerseys, it’s hard to bet against what information he has.
On his Twitter account, Smith added that the jersey rendering doesn’t have lettering or numbers, but only
because he doesn’t, “have solid info yet.” He continued by saying this could, in fact, be the third jersey the Avalanche wear and not the Stadium Series threads at all. The Colorado state flag stylized ‘C’ is a new touch to all Avalanche jerseys – the club added it as a shoulder patch this off-season – but using it as the full logo on the alternate jersey is interesting, if only because it harkens back to the days of the Colorado Rockies. While calling back to the regions hockey history is one thing, it’s an entirely different story when the Rockies went on to become the New Jersey Devils. So, in a way, this is paying homage to the history of the Devils. Outside of that, nothing about the jersey really pops. If Smith is right in his rendering, this jersey likely won’t be flying off the shelf. No official date for the Avalanche’s jersey release – or releases – has been made, but if the sneak peek is to be trusted, some fans might hope the club goes back to the drawing board before the club hits the ice in these threads.
