NEW YORK, N.Y. - Tampa Bay Lightning centre Steven Stamkos was named NHL first star of the month Tuesday after leading all players with 19 points in October.
Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas was the second star and Colorado Avalanche right-winger Chris Stewart was the third star.
Stamkos had nine goals and 10 assists in 10 games last month. He also posted a plus-nine rating over the stretch.
Thomas won each of his six starts in October. He led the league with a 0.50 goals-against average, .984 save percentage and three shutouts.
He's the first Bruins goaltender to start the season with a 6-0-0 record since Hockey Hall of Famer Cecil (Tiny) Thompson in 1937-38.
Stewart had 16 points (9-7) last month. He recorded three game-winning goals and ended October on an eight-game point streak.
