Taylor Beck’s no-look pass from his knees is assist of the year

With all the great setup men in the league today – names such as Nicklas Backstrom, Henrik Sedin and Joe Thornton – who would have figured it would be Nashville’s Taylor Beck that made the best pass we’ll see all season?

Late in Monday’s game between the Predators and Rangers, after a New York clearing attempt was held in at the blueline, the puck skipped down to Beck. When he scooped up the puck, he lost his footing and, from his knees, made a backhanded, no-look pass that landed perfectly on the tape of Matt Cullen for a one-time goal. It’s a thing of beauty:

So, how unlikely was it that Beck would be the player dishing out the best helper we’ve seen in 2014-15? Well, it was only the sixth assist of Beck’s season. In 45 games with the Predators, Beck has five goals and 11 points.

Beck’s feed to Cullen would stand as the only Predators goal in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Rangers as Nashville dropped their third straight game in regulation, the first time all season they’ve lost more than two in a row. The Predators remain first in the Presidents’ Trophy race with 89 points after 64 games played, but both Montreal and Anaheim sit only two points back.

Giordano's Impact Not Ignored by Maple Leafs

Giordano isn’t at the peak he was at when he won the James Norris Trophy in 2019, but his importance to Toronto's blueline – aided by a very cap-friendly deal – is notable for a variety of reasons.
