Niklas Backstrom, G, Minnesota Wild

2008/11/02:  Minnesota Wild netminder Niklas Backstrom made 25 saves to help his club to a 3-2 road win at Phoenix on Saturday. INTEL: Backstrom now has seven wins on the young campaign, which is tied for second in the league with Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff and San Jose's Evgeni Nabokov. The leader is New York Ranger Henrik Lundqvist with eight wins.

Todd Bertuzzi, RW/LW, Calgary Flames

2008/11/02: Calgary Flames winger Todd Bertuzzi registered his first two assists of the season in Saturday's 3-2 road win at Los Angeles. INTEL: Bertuzzi now has six goals and eight points in his first 11 games as a Flame. On a down note, he currently sports the worst plus/minus (-7) on the team.

Oscar Moller, W/C, Los Angeles Kings

2008/11/02: Los Angeles Kings rookie winger Oscar Moller scored his third and fourth goals of the season in a 3-2 home loss to the Flames Saturday night. Moller was told prior to the contest that he will be staying with the Kings for the time being, instead of being sent back to the WHL.

Miikka Kiprusoff, G, Calgary Flames

2008/11/02: Calgary Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 34 of 36 shots at Los Angeles on Saturday night to record his sixth victory in a row, a 3-2 road win over the Kings. INTEL: After a 1-3-1 start to the regular schedule, the Finnish puck-stopper has been on fire. He has yet to receive a day off but likely won't as long as he's red-hot for the streaking Flames.

Olli Jokinen, C, Phoenix Coyotes

2008/11/02:  Finnish center Olli Jokinen accounted for all of the Phoenix Coyotes' scoring on Saturday against Minnesota, as he registered his third and fourth goals of the campaign in a 3-2 loss.

Marty Turco, G, Dallas Stars

2008/11/02:  Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco allowed five goals on just 25 shots in Saturday's loss at Boston, as the veteran continues to struggle. Turco has won just three of his 10 starts and he has allowed three or more goals in nine of those games. The Stars are back in action on Friday at Anaheim and then Saturday at San Jose and it would not be surprising to see Turco and Tobias Stephan to split starts next weekend.

Tim Thomas, G, Boston Bruins

2008/11/01: Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas allowed one goal on 36 shots in Saturday's 5-1 win against the Stars. Thomas has won three of his past four starts and he has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his past six games. The Bruins are off until Thursday against the Maple Leafs.

Marco Sturm, LW, Boston Bruins

2008/11/01:  Boston Bruins forward Marco Sturm responded to being dropped to the third line by coach Claude Julien with a pair of goals and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's game against the Stars. New linemates David Krejci chipped in with an assist and Blake Wheeler had a pair of helpers and a plus-2.

Paul Kariya, LW, St. Louis Blues

2008/11/01: St. Louis Blues forward Paul Kariya picked up a pair of assists and a plus-1 rating in 19:25 of ice time in Saturday's game against the Penguins. Kariya has been on fire this season, as he has five multi-point efforts in 10 starts. He has also recorded at least one point in eight of his 10 games for a total of two goals and 14 points.

Tyler Kennedy, RW/C, Pittsburgh Penguins

2008/11/01:  Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tyler Kennedy scored a goal, added an assist and he finished with a plus-2 rating in 12:41 of ice time in Saturday's game at St. Louis. Kennedy scored his first goal since posting two markers in the Oct. 4 opener against the Senators in Stockholm.

Brent Burns, D, Minnesota Wild

2008/11/02: Minnesota Wild defenseman Brent Burns was scratched from the lineup just prior to the start of Saturday's road contest at Phoenix because of an upper body injury. As a result, Tomas Mojzis dressed in his place. However, he too suffered an upper body injury in the contest. Meanwhile, enforcer Derek Boogaard (undisclosed) and defenseman Erik Reitz (flu) returned to action on Saturday after missing one game apiece.

Brad Richards, C/W, Dallas Stars

2008/11/02: After missing one game due to a lower body injury, Dallas Stars center Brad Richards returned to the lineup on Saturday against the Boston Bruins. He replaced winger Chris Conner (healthy scratch).

Tim Connolly, C/W, Buffalo Sabres

2008/11/02:  After missing 10 games due to a back injury, Buffalo Sabres center Tim Connolly returned to action on Saturday. He recorded an assist and a plus-1 rating in a 5-0 home win over Washington. He took the place of enforcer Andrew Peters in the Sabres lineup.

Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey Devils

2008/11/02:  New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur was forced to leave Saturday's start against the Thrashers in the second period after reportedly suffering a bruised left elbow. The Associated Press reports that he suffered the injury at the 6:38 mark of the second period after making a sprawling save, he clutched his arm and skated off the ice for the locker room. Kevin Weekes replaced him and inherited a 3-0 lead. Brodeur had played every minute of the first 10 games for the Devils this season.

Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins

2008/11/01:  Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby (hip) is on the ice for Saturday's game at St. Louis. He was able to take part in Saturday's morning skate and he did not experience any setbacks.

Ruslan Fedotenko, LW/RW, Pittsburgh Penguins

2008/11/01: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ruslan Fedotenko was unable to play in Saturday's game at St. Louis due to an undisclosed injury. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Fedotenko left practice after about 10 minutes on Saturday due to the injury. Janne Pesonen was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL earlier in the day to replace him in the lineup. Fedotenko is considered day to day.

Dan Ellis, G, Nashville Predators

2008/11/01:  Nashville Predators head coach Barry Trotz elected to rest goaltender Dan Ellis (strained back) on Saturday night against the Panthers, as Pekka Rinne made his second straight start. Ellis had his back tighten up in pre-game warmups on Thursday, so Rinne started and beat the Oilers. Ellis is dressed as the backup and considered day to day.

Rick DiPietro, G, New York Islanders

2008/11/01: is reporting that New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro had arthroscopic surgery on Friday to repair a meniscus injury. The team added that he will miss four to six weeks. Joey MacDonald will be the primary starting goaltender for the Isles with Yann Danis serving as his backup, although Danis got the starting nod on Saturday night versus Montreal against his former team.

Raffi Torres, LW, Columbus Blue Jackets

2008/11/01: Columbus Blue Jackets winger Raffi Torres (separated shoulder) has been activated off injured reserve for Saturday night's contest against the Chicago Blackhawks. Torres has been out since the preseason.
