This is why I love sports.

Doug Weight goes 25 games this year without putting the puck over the most significant line on the ice; then, suddenly, he can’t stop scoring.

The veteran American has four goals in his past three games. As one of our writers quipped this morning: “He’s the best player in the NHL right now!”...

Excerpt from an exchange between a media member and funny man Andre Roy in the Tampa Bay dressing room after a morning skate:

Media Type: Hey Andre, can we get a couple minutes of your time for an interview?

Roy:
No, no, it’s a game day; I’ve got to mentally prepare for my three shifts.

Good on you, Andre. Not enough people in the world – let alone the NHL – have ample sense of humor or self-awareness.

For the record, Roy turned in what looked to be a gem of a TV interview. And he actually hustled through 10 shifts that night...

The Ottawa Senators are paying two goalies like they’re No. 1 stoppers, yet somehow don’t receive No. 1-type goaltending in every game.

Here’s something to chew on while the Sens’ tending situation sorts itself out: Glass. As in Jeff Glass, the goalie putting together a stellar campaign with Ottawa’s American League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

After 17 games, the 22-year-old has the third-best goals-against average (2.22) and second-best save percentage (.928) among goalies in the league.

And he’s certainly no stranger to success.

Carey Price and Justin Pogge – because of the teams that drafted them – gained a lot more acclaim for their triumphs at the World Junior Championship, but don’t forget Glass was the man in net on Canada’s "Dream Team" that stomped the competition at the 2005 event.

Glass has worked his way up from major junior, through the ECHL and now is excelling in the best development league in the world.

Sens GM Bryan Murray has got to be a little more inclined to wheel one of his goalies knowing Glass looks more and more like an NHLer every day.
