Thrashers hope to avoid last place vs. Lightning

Tampa Bay (10-18-10) at Atlanta (13-21-5) 5:00 p.m. EST

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Thrashers are hoping a modest

winning streak will keep them out of the Southeast Division

basement.

The Thrashers will be attempting to post back-to-back wins for

the first time since mid-November when they host the Tampa Bay

Lightning on Sunday.

Since moving to 7-7-2 with its fifth straight win on November

14, Atlanta has gone 6-14-3 and is only one point ahead of Tampa

Bay in the Southeast. The Thrashers' defense has been the

biggest problem, as the club has yielded an NHL-high 142 goals.

Kari Lehtonen posted the win in Friday's 4-3 shootout triumph

over Vancouver, stopping Daniel Sedin's attempt in the fourth

round to halt Atlanta's four-game slide.

The Lightning have found wins even harder to come by this

season, putting together two five-game streaks and a nine-game

run without gaining the full two points.

Tampa Bay jumped to an early two-goal lead against the Carolina

Hurricanes on Saturday but yielded three unanswered tallies to

fall, 3-2. The setback stretched the Lightning's latest losing

streak to three games.
