Thrashers hoping to end five-game skid vs. Islanders

Atlanta (8-14-3) at NY Islanders (10-13-2), 7:00 pm EST

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Thrashers aim to

snap a five-game losing streak when they take on the New York

Islanders on Saturday.

The Thrashers have struggled all season and currently have the

worst record in the NHL. The team's lone bright spot, Ilya

Kovalchuk is even having an off-year.

Kovalchuk, who has eight goals and a club-high 23 points, is on

pace for 26 goals, which would be a career-low. In each of the

last four seasons, Kovalchuk has had more than 40 goals -

including a pair of 52-goal campaigns.

Atlanta, which has just one win since November 14, is coming off

a 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

The Islanders have not fared much better, occupying the bottom

of the Atlantic Division for most of the season.

New York has lost three of its previous four contests, including

Thursday's 5-2 setback to the Washington Capitals. The

Islanders have won three of their last four home games.
