Time to eliminate the shootout

Debra Wells, St. Clair Beach, Ont.

Time for the shootout fiasco to fade quietly away.

It was never a good idea to allow the outcome of a game – in a team sport – to rest on a couple of players who may or may not be having a good night.

The NHL powers that be, looking to boost ratings, talked themselves into believing fans thought this was terribly exciting when all it was, was terrible.

Particularly at this time of year, when every point counts, when so many teams are playing for crucial playoff spots, to have games decided by a gimmick is unfair at best, inaccurate at worst.
