TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs secured their final roster ahead of the regular season with five cuts Monday.

The Leafs sent forward Mike Zigomanis and defenceman Keith Aulie down to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

The team also placed forwards Darryl Boyce and Joey Crabb, and defenceman Matt Lashoff, on waivers.

The 23-man roster includes rookie defenceman Jake Gardiner and rookie forward Matt Frattin.

Toronto will start the season without injured forward Nazem Kadri and suspended forward Clarke MacArthur.

Kadri is expected to miss two to four weeks with a knee sprain while MacArthur will miss two games after being penalized for an illegal head shot on Detroit forward Justin Abdelkader.

Toronto opens the regular season Thursday at home to the Montreal Canadiens.
