Utica Comets unveil green and blue third jersey for 2015-16

The Utica Comets are going to hit the ice next season in one of the most unique alternate jerseys in the AHL. The Comets unveiled a new third jersey which boasts a new alternate mark atop a green jersey. It’s a good look for the 2014-15 Eastern Conference champions.

After an incredibly successful 2014-15 campaign, the Utica Comets aren’t afraid to hit the ice with a bold, new look. In time for the 2015-16 season, the Utica Comets have unveiled a brand new third jersey, one which is a departure from the club’s Vancouver Canucks-style look. In a YouTube video posted to the team’s website Wednesday, the club unveiled their new third jersey for the upcoming campaign — a green, blue and white beauty that looks more like Hartford Whalers colors than it does Canucks.

The jersey also features a brand new alternate logo, which is a great take on the current Comets mark and pops off the back of the unique green color. According to the Comets, the logo itself was inspired by the “U-TI-CA” chants at the Comets’ home rink, the Utica Memorial Auditorium. “Our third jersey design is something very special to both myself and this community,” said Comets President Robert Esche. “Our fans continually embodied civic pride throughout our last two seasons – especially during last year’s playoff run – which exemplifies the bright future ahead for not only the Comets but for the City as a whole.”

Not many teams have gone with green as a primary color in recent years, and especially not as bright a green as the Comets have chosen. We’re on board, though, because this color combination looks great. Video game fans will be able to use the jersey in the upcoming EA Sports NHL 16 when the game is released. The Comets made it all the way to the Calder Cup final in 2014-15, but lost in five games to the dominant Manchester Monarchs. In 2015-16, they’ll look to repeat the feat — with a different result — in new style.
