Vancouver Canuck defenceman Dan Hamhuis leaves Game 1 of Cup final
VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canuck defenceman Dan Hamhuis left Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday with an apparent injury.
In the second period, Hamhuis went to the ice after delivering a hip check on Bruins forward Milan Lucic, who was sent flying head-over-heels.
Boston's David Krejci took exception to the hit and cross-checked Hamhuis while he was on the ice.
Hamhuis went to the Canucks' dressing room hunched over and wincing, and did not return to the game.
There was no word from the Canucks on his condition.
A serious injury to Hamhuis would be a significant loss for the Canucks. Hamhuis often partners with Kevin Bieksa against the opposition's top forwards.
Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version had Game 1 on Monday in the first paragraph.
