Vernon Fiddler is going to have nightmares about this John Gibson save

John Gibson made a highlight reel save that is going to haunt Vernon Fiddler's dreams for the rest of the season. Down and out, Fiddler thought he had a wide open net before Gibson slid back to rob a sure goal.

Vernon Fiddler has seven goals in 61 games this season. If it weren't for Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson, he would have eight.

In Sunday night's contest between the Ducks and Dallas Stars, Fiddler had one of the best scoring chances a player could ask for. After Fiddler dumped the puck in on Gibson, Stars' winger Curtis McKenzie followed up with a shot that was stopped by the Ducks goaltender. With the puck squirting back out in front of the goal, Fiddler followed up and patiently waited for a bit of net to open up. With Gibson entirely out of position -- or so it seemed -- Fiddler fired. Gibson's save was remarkable:

The stop was one of 39 the 21-year-old Gibson made on the night as the Ducks went on to a 3-1 victory over Dallas.

It's not surprising to see Gibson make the sprawling save, though. Since returning from the AHL, Gibson has posted a 6-3 record and has allowed less than three goals in five of his nine starts. The stint in the AHL came after a groin injury sidelined Gibson for 22 games spanning from late-October to mid-December.

Now back in the lineup to replace the injured Frederik Andersen, Gibson has kept the Ducks firmly in position as the top seed in the Pacific Division.
