Heading into the 2010-11 campaign most pundits predicted Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin would compete for the Calder Trophy. But with half the year behind us it is Logan Couture and 18-year-old Jeff Skinner who are leading this freshman class.

And while Couture enjoyed the benefit of a season in the American League before making the jump to the NHL, Skinner made the Carolina Hurricanes straight from the Ontario League and the Markham, Ont., native has picked up right where he left off in junior.

Through the first 41 games of his NHL career, Skinner has 14 goals and 32 points, but more importantly he has shown the consistency that eludes most young players.

THN.com’s Sean Leathong takes a closer look at Carolina’s fantastic freshman, Jeff Skinner.
