VIDEO: Evander Kane primed for starring role in Atlanta

The Hockey News

Evander Kane is not in the running for the Calder Trophy this season, but that doesn’t diminish the success and progress the youngster has made in his rookie campaign.

While his numbers (14 goals, 26 points) won’t blow you away, he has shown signs of brilliance while adapting his game to the fast paced physical style of the NHL. And if his three years with the Vancouver Giants of the Western League are any indication, Kane is likely to make massive leaps over the next few seasons.

After an eight-game taste of major junior in 2006-07, the speedy winger enjoyed a break-out season the following year, scoring 24 goals and 41 points in 65 games and earning rookie of the year consideration. Last season, he led the WHL in goals with 48 and his 96 points put him fourth in scoring, so the Thrashers have every reason to believe Kane is a superstar in the making.

Rory Boylen takes a closer look at Atlanta’s 18-year-old prodigy.
