No problem is too big for the undersized Nic Petan to solve. Fresh off a Western League title and Memorial Cup final appearance with the Portland Winterhawks, the skilled 5-foot-9 pivot is now in the mix for Canada's world junior team.

Along with linemate Brendan Leipsic, Petan was part of the Canadian contingent that marched down to Lake Placid, N.Y., for Team USA's National Junior Evaluation Camp. There, they took on squads from Sweden, Finland and the host U.S.

Selected in the second round by the Winnipeg Jets in 2013, Petan will return to Portland, where his offense will be needed more than ever with stars Ty Rattie and Seth Jones not expected back. THN's Ryan Kennedy spoke to Petan in Lake Placid.
