VIDEO: Weiss has bright future in ‘Sunshine State’

The Hockey News

As another disappointing season draws to a close for the Florida Panthers one of the few bright spots management can find solace in is the evolution of Stephen Weiss from set-up man to sniper.

With both Nathan Horton and David Booth missing significant time due to injuries this season, Weiss was called upon to pick up the slack and he has risen to the challenge.

The 27-year-old Toronto native set a career high in goals and his 58 points put him just three off his best with five games remaining. On top of his new-found scoring prowess, Weiss has developed all aspects of his game and prides himself on his faceoff ability.

While their playoffs hopes have all but vanished this year the team believes with a healthy lineup and Weiss leading the charge, 2010-11 could be the year the Panthers get back to the post-season.

Rory Boylen takes an inside look at the evolution of Panthers center Stephen Weiss.
