Watch Blackhawks’ Panarin blast beautiful backhand pass from Kane

Artemi Panarin is making a name for himself in his rookie season, and Patrick Kane has played a big part in that. Sunday night, Kane set up Panarin with a backhand pass that spanned nearly the entire offensive zone, and Panarin smoked past Blues goaltender Brian Elliott.

Patrick Kane has been dominating the NHL’s scoring race for most of the season, but he hasn’t done it alone. His 26-game point streak was aided by the impressive play of

Artem Anisimov and

Artemi Panarin. Sunday night, Kane managed another point and it was thanks to a booming slapshot from Panarin. In the second period of a scoreless game against St. Louis, the Blackhawks broke into the Blues zone with the puck on Kane’s stick. Kane glided down the right wing wall, took a look to his left, spotted Panarin and threw a perfect backhand pass across the zone. Panarin wasted no time before absolutely rocketing the puck on goal:

The play by

Trevor van Riemsdyk, who drives the net to open up the passing lane, can’t go unmentioned, either. Without van Riemsdyk heading to the net, it’s unlikely Kane’s backhand feed finds its way all the way across the ice. With the marker, Panarin now has 17 goals and 46 points on the season and owns the rookie lead in goals, assists and points. Playing with Kane has certainly been a great benefit for Panarin, though. Of Panarin’s 46 points, Kane has been involved in the scoring play 39 times, including assists on 14 of Panarin’s 17 goals. The two are seemingly always looking for each other when on the ice together, too, which has led to some Globetrotter-esque moments. Panarin is on pace to finish the season with 27 goals and 73 points. If Panarin can hit that mark, he’ll have some bragging rights over Kane, who scored 21 goals and 72 points in his rookie campaign.
