Ryan Reaves’ YouTube channel contains a grand total of four videos, all of which are him pulling pranks on teammates. The Blues tough guy has hidden in the back of St. Louis winger Steve Ott’s truck and jumped out at him, hopped out of a hotel bathroom to frighten defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and saran-wrapped former teammate Ian Cole’s vehicle shut.
His latest instalment, though, may be his best, and that’s because veteran center Scott Gomez has the best reaction of any Blues player yet. Watch as Gomez — who Reaves says hates getting scared — nearly falls over backwards after getting leapt out at by Reaves:
The clown mask is a great touch, and probably helped add a bit of extra fright into the moment for Gomez. Reaves and Gomez had a good laugh after the initial scare that Gomez needs a few seconds to recover from.
Gomez, 35, signed with the Blues in the off-season after earning a deal out of training camp and has been in and out of the lineup in St. Louis. He’s only played in two of the past 10 Blues games and has been a healthy scratch for the rest. In 20 games this season, Gomez has one goal and eight points, but he’s coming off of a seven-goal and 34-point campaign in 58 games with New Jersey in 2014-15.
As for Reaves, he has one goal in 26 games and is averaging less than nine minutes of ice time per game.
