Watch Brian Elliott rob Ales Hemsky with incredible reaching glove stop

Blues goaltender Brian Elliott made an awesome glove save to steal a sure goal from Stars winger Ales Hemsky. Elliott was down and out before reaching back and pulling the puck off the goal line.

Dallas Stars winger Ales Hemsky has always been more of a setup man than a pure goal scorer, but the 32-year-old is on pace for the lowest full season goal total of his career with just three goals through 36 games. He was inches away from his fourth tally, though, before Blues goaltender Brian Elliott made one of the best saves of the season.

In the second frame of Sunday’s game against St. Louis, Hemsky found himself alone to the right of the Blues net when a puck bounced right onto his tape. With Elliott down and out, Hemsky had what appeared to be a tap in, but when he smacked the puck toward the net, it was met with a huge glove stop:

Elliott’s stop was one of 35 he made on the evening in what was a stellar performance against a high-flying Stars team. Both of the goals Elliott allowed came with the Blues shorthanded, and Dallas’ third goal of the evening was an empty-netter late in the contest.

With the loss, Elliott’s record on the season now slips to 5-4-2 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .916 save percentage. Elliott lost the starting job in St. Louis by late October thanks to the play of Jake Allen. Elliott had rattled off four wins in his first four starts this season, but went two months — Oct. 18 to Dec. 19 — without picking up another win.
