Patrick Kane already has control of the Art Ross race, and on Friday night he surpassed Alex Ovechkin as the league’s top goal scorer.

Kane scored twice in just over four minutes of the second period giving the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs. He completed the hat trick with his 28th of the season in the third.

According to Chicago Sun-Times' reporter Mark Lazerus, Friday night was Kane's first career regular season hat trick.

"I wouldn’t trade the two in the playoffs for anything in the regular season," Kane said per Lazerus.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring at 13:07 of the middle frame with his 26th of the season.

Then at 17:13, he put home an Artemi Panarin feed for his 27th.

After assisting on Panarin's third period goal, Kane netted his third of the night at 17:48 of the final frame.

Kane now has 28 goals and 67 points in 47 games – he had 64 points in 61 regular season games last year before being sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Since going back-to-back games with out a point (Dec. 22 & 27), Kane now has seven goals and 10 assists in 10 games.

Kane is now two shy of his career-high of 30 goals set during the 2009-10 season.
