Watch the cinematic trailer for Game 7 between Capitals, Rangers
In every film there has ever been about hockey, there's one, big showdown that has to happen as the movie draws to a close. The Mighty Ducks had games against the Hawks, Iceland and the varsity team. Goon featured Doug Glatt dropping the gloves with Ross 'The Boss' Rhea. And Slap Shot, well, Ned Braden's on-ice routine helps the Chiefs win the Federal League.
The climactic ending in the second-round series between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers hasn't happened yet. But Wednesday night it's Game 7 at Madison Square Garden and, as if it were a movie, the game has its own cinematic trailer.
If that doesn't get you excited for Game 7, you might want to check your pulse.
Wednesday night's game marks the fourth Game 7 Washington and New York have played against each other since the 2004-05 lockout and the storylines are plentiful. There's Alex Ovechkin's "guarantee." There's the Rangers' ability to win Game 7s -- they're 5-1 since the lockout. In goal, arguably the post-season's two best goaltenders go head-to-head in one, winner-takes-all game. Really, the trailer captures it all perfectly.
In the previous three Game 7s between the clubs, the Rangers have won twice and lost once. Two of the games -- the Capitals' win in 2009 and the Rangers' win in 2012 -- had a final score of 2-1, but Washington will be looking to avenge the 5-0 shellacking they took in 2013.
