The Great One continues to break records.

Wayne Gretzky's last game-worn Edmonton Oilers jersey from the 1988 Stanley Cup final sold on Sunday for US$1.452 million (CA$1.791 million), becoming the most expensive jersey sold at an auction of all time.

The jersey sold through Grey Flannel Auctions on Sunday night, beating the record set by Paul Henderson's 1972 Summit Series sweater as the most expensive hockey jersey of all time. Henderson's jersey sold for $1.2 million over a decade ago.

Using the jersey, Gretzky led the Oilers to a sweep of the Stanley Cup final over Boston. Gretzky won the Conn Smythe with 12 goals and 43 points in just 19 games in one of his most incredible hockey performances.

Three months later, Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and spent the rest of his career playing in the United States.

Today, Gretzky serves as an analyst for TNT after bouncing around various hockey roles in his post-playing career.
