Wellwood, Luongo leading the way for Canucks

Phoenix (5-5-0) at Vancouver (7-6-0) 10:00 p.m. EST

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Kyle Wellwood and

Roberto Luongo have helped the Vancouver Canucks end a dismal

stretch.

The Canucks look to continue their recent strong play on

Thursday, when they host the Phoenix Coyotes.

After opening the season with a pair of wins over the Calgary

Flames, Vancouver dropped four of its next five games to erase

any momentum it built. But Wellwood and Luongo have powered the

Canucks to four wins in their last six games.

Wellwood has scored five of his six goals in the last six

contests and tallied twice during Vancouver's 4-0 victory over

the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Luongo stopped all 24 shots he faced against the Predators to

register his third shutout of the season and 41st career. The

Canucks' captain has two shutouts in four games, posting a 3-1-0

record and 2.22 goals-against average over that span.

Shane Doan helped the Coyotes snap a three-game road losing

streak by scoring a goal and setting up another during a 4-2

victory over the Flames on Tuesday.

Doan, Phoenix's captain who leads the team with seven goals and

12 points, has three tallies and five assists during his current

four-game points streak.
