Wild G Harding forced to leave first home start in over a year after 1st period

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild backup goalie Josh Harding left after the first period Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings with a hip injury and was replaced by regular starter Niklas Backstrom.

Wild coach Todd Richards said he thought Harding injured his left hip early in the first while making two saves on a breakaway by Pavel Datsyuk and Patrick Eaves. Harding played the rest of the first period, but didn't return for the second.

Harding, making his first home start in over a year, stopped 10 of 11 Red Wings shots and left trailing 1-0. The Wild eventually lost 4-3 in a shootout.
