Wild punch from bench gets Sharks prospect ejected – during the shootout

San Jose draft pick Dylan Sadowy is a top player in the OHL right now, but this was not his most shining moment. Watch him punch Mississauga's Mikey McLeod after the Steelheads center scored in the shootout.

This is one of those incidents that requires multiple viewings.

In Friday's OHL tilt between the Saginaw Spirit and Mississauga Steelheads, elite 2016 draft prospect Mikey McLeod was returning to the bench after scoring a shootout goal for the home team. I was at this game in Mississauga and didn't see McLeod do anything untoward, but for some reason, Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy took exception and did this:

Wow. Sadowy is no goon and in fact, he's one of the leading scorers in the league right now (San Jose selected the left winger 81st overall in 2014). He and McLeod both had great games, with each registering two points in what turned out to be a 4-3 Saginaw shootout win. But what was up with that punch?

The refs caught Sadowy and gave him a game misconduct. So far, there has been no supplementary discipline (calls to the OHL have yet to be returned) and Sadowy played two more games on the weekend, tallying five more points in two games – one win, one loss. Mississauga and Saginaw do not play against each other again this season.

Considering how no-nonsense the OHL has been when it comes to matters of discipline, I would not be shocked if Sadowy ends up sitting some games in the near future.
