Wild sign former Panthers and Senators centre Serge Payer

Payer spent most of last season in the minors with Birmingham of the AHL. The six-foot, 191-pound Payer played in five NHL games with the Ottawa Senators.

Originally signed by Florida in 1997, the 28-year-old Payer played in 71 games for the Panthers in the 2005-06 season.

The Ottawa native essentially replaces centre Wyatt Smith, who signed with the Colorado Avalanche.
