Winnipeg Jets sign defenceman Julian Melchiori to entry-level contract

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets signed defenceman Julian Melchiori to a three-year entry level contract Friday.

Melchiori, 20, started the 2011-'12 season with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers, where he had two goals, 17 assists and 42 penalty minutes in 25 games.

He was acquired by the Oshawa Generals on Jan. 8 and has accumulated 17 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 25 games.

The native of Richmond Hill, Ont., was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the third round, 87th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
