On their first trip to Crypto.com Arena this season, the Anaheim Ducks fell to the Los Angeles Kings 4-1.
While the score looks bad when you look at the rosters of the two teams, it softens the blow a bit.
The Kings iced what's expected to be the majority of their opening night roster. While the Ducks had just a few NHL regulars.
The Ducks fell behind early to a Kevin Fiala wraparound goal and were then hit with two goals in 25 seconds to put them behind 3-0 in the first.
They got a goal back in the second with Brett Leason's shot on a two-on-one bouncing off Kings defensemen Mikey Anderson and into the back of the net.
The goal came against the run of play and the Ducks continued to struggle against a strong Kings lineup, eventually giving up a fourth goal in the third period.
The game would end 4-1 but did still go into a customary preseason shootout.
The Ducks would lose in the shootout as well, but their one goal was a beauty from 18-year-old Leo Carlsson. Carlsson made a nifty move, sending Talbot to the wrong side of the net before depositing into an empty net.
Given the gap in quality between the two rosters, there wasn't much to take from this game. However, a few of the Ducks' young players did put together strong performances.
