The Bruins have a big decision to make with Brad Marchand.

The Boston Bruins have had a disappointing season, and they find themselves in a difficult position right now because of it. They currently do not hold a playoff spot with the 2025 NHL trade deadline right around the corner and are likely to make changes to their roster because of it.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand is the biggest name generating chatter in the rumor mill right now. The 36-year-old winger is a pending unrestricted free agent and questions will continue to surround his future if he remains without an extension near March 7.

In a recent article for RG, James Murphy reported that a source informed him that the Bruins are not actively looking to trade Marchand, but they are "listening" to calls about No. 63.

"They’re getting calls on [Marchand], and teams are wondering what they’re going to do here, but, at this point, I think they’re just listening," RG's NHL executive source said. "Still, the fact that the Bruins or Marchand haven’t come right out and squashed this like they have in the past is telling. With things also being so quiet on contract talks, it tells you this is getting real.”

RG's source also added that the Bruins will do "more than listening" if the Original Six club and Marchand can't make progress on a contract extension after the break.

Marchand's trade market is reportedly picking up, too, as RG's source shared that the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, and Vegas Golden Knights are all interested in the star forward.

It is understandable that each of these clubs are reportedly interested in Marchand. All five of them are at the top of the Western Conference, and bringing in Marchand would make each of them an even more significant threat. The veteran forward is still a star at this juncture of his career, posting 20 goals, 44 points, 64 hits in 57 contests this season.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening between the Bruins and Marchand from here. An extension would put all trade speculation to bed, but until then, all eyes will be on the future Hall of Famer.
