The Bruins have an intriguing potential target worth considering from the Avalanche.

The Boston Bruins are in an intriguing spot at this point of the season. They currently have a 27-23-6 record and are sixth in the Atlantic Division standings. However, they are far from being out of the playoff race, as they trail the third-place Ottawa Senators by just two points in the standings.

If the Bruins continue to struggle with consistency as the deadline approaches, bringing in rentals may not be the best course of action. However, targeting players with term who would help the Bruins beyond this season could be an avenue worth exploring.

When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, one player who the Bruins should seriously consider inquiring about is Colorado Avalanche center Casey Mittelstadt.

Mittelstadt, 26, has been picking up steam in the rumor mill with the Avalanche. He has had trouble fitting into Colorado's system, so a change of scenery may be the best call for the player and team.

Mittelstadt has nine goals and 32 points in 55 games this season with the Avalanche. This offense is not bad, but the 2017 eighth-overall pick has shown that he can produce far more. In 80 games last season with the Buffalo Sabres and Avalanche, he had 18 goals and 57 points. He also had a career-high 59 points in 82 games with Buffalo in 2022-23.

With this, Mittelstadt has shown that he can be a quality top-six center, which is something Boston undoubtedly needs right now. In addition, he is right in his prime and would be more than a rental, as he has a $5.75 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Ultimately, the Bruins need help down the middle and more overall skill, so bringing in a young forward like Mittelstadt could be excellent for them. In Boston's lineup, he could slot nicely in their top six.
