This former Bruins forward is a popular player on the trade market right now.
Former Boston Bruins forward Ryan Donato is having a career season. The 28-year-old forward has already set new career highs with 19 goals and 37 points in 53 games with the Chicago Blackhawks. This includes posting four goals and eight points over his last four games. He also has 13 points over his previous 10 contests.
During Sportsnet's Saturday Headlines, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Donato is, unsurprisingly, generating trade interest as he continues to build on his great campaign.
"The other one I wanted to mention: Ryan Donato," Friedman said. "He scored his 19th goal of the season tonight. He's had an excellent season. He's a $2-million player. A UFA at the end of the year. I think a few of the Canadian teams are looking around on him. I think Edmonton is one of them, and he is doing nothing to hurt his value. And I think because of the price and the fact that he's a UFA, he's going to be a pretty attractive piece, and like I said, I think a few of the Canadian teams are around."
Hearing that Donato is picking up interest is entirely understandable. He is having an impressive season with Chicago, and his cap hit is incredibly affordable, especially with all he is providing. He can also play both down the middle and on the wing, which adds to his value.
When looking at where the Bruins are in the standings, reuniting with a rental like Donato may not make sense for them. However, he could be a strong addition to a contender's roster for the post-season.
