Sabres forward suffered an Achilles injury in late June

The Buffalo Sabres have been plagued by injuries early this season, with Alex Tuch, Zach Benson, Dylan Cozens, Mattias Samuelsson, Matthew Savoie, Eric Comrie, Devon Levi, and most recently Tage Thompson all missing time.

Most of the injuries have been short-term, with the exception of Thompson (out with a hand injury). The Sabres offense has taken a hit with the loss of last year’s leading goal scorer until at least Christmas.

While not expected to be returning in the next few weeks, the Sabres are seeing progress from injured winger Jack Quinn, who took to the ice prior to the club’s practice in Chicago on Tuesday.

"He's out there before we even hit the ice with our rehab staff, but I know (Jack has) been skating." Sabres head coach Don Granato said. "I don't get too involved in the progression (of his rehabilitation), but I know there's still quite a ways away, but every day has been encouraging with him and that's what you want to see."

Quinn had 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) in his rookie season with the Sabres, and then was one of Canada’s top scorers in their Gold Medal effort at the World Championships last June, but the 22-year-old suffered an Achilles injury in off-season training just prior to the NHL Draft in Nashville.

The timeframe given after surgery was four to six months, which could mean a return around the same time that Thompson gets back. That would provide the offensively struggling Sabres a big boost.
