The Calgary Flames have five drafted prospects skating in the WHL, including Jaden Lipinski and Alex Hurtig. How have their respective seasons been?

The Calgary Flames have five drafted prospects currently skating in the WHL, including Jaden Lipinski, Hunter Laing, and Alex Hurtig, who skates at the Saddledome with the Calgary Hitmen.

Even though several of the players on this list are not signed, the club owns their rights, so let's see how they've performed this season.

Jaden Lipinski (C) Vancouver Canucks (42 Points)

Jaden Lipinski was a fourth-round pick (112th overall) in the 2023 Draft and is the only prospect on this list with AHL experience, having skated three games with the Calgary Wranglers.

Last year, he scored 66 points in 67 games, good enough for a .98 points-per-game average. In 2024-25, Lipinski is still producing at a .93 average with 42 points in 45 games. He's on pace for 55 points, potentially the second-best total of his WHL career.

Hunter Laing (C) Saskatoon Blades (32 Points)

The Flames used their first sixth-round pick at the 2024 Draft to select Hunter Laing, who is the only prospect in the WHL that was traded this season. After parts of three seasons with the Prince George Cougars, he now plays with the Saskatoon Blades.

Before the deal, Laing had ten goals and 22 points in 36 games. Since then, he's scored six goals and ten points in 15 games with the Blades. After a career-high 25 points last year, he's on pace for 42.

Eric Jamieson (D) Everett Silvertips (31 Points)

As the last pick of the Flames in the 2024 Draft, sixth-round, 177th overall, Eric Jamieson is playing in his final season with the Everett Silvertips, committing to play at the University of Denver next season.

The Calgary native has already scored a career high 12 goals and is just one point shy of tying a personal best of 32 points last season. Jamieson is the current captain of the Silvertips and ranks eighth in team scoring.

Andrew Basha (LW) Medicine Hat Tigers (29 Points)

Andrew Basha was drafted by the Flames in the second round of the 2024 Draft (41st overall) after an 85-point season with the Medicine Hat Tigers last season.

Despite being promoted to alternate captain, Basha is on pace for just 43 points, which would be almost half of his 2023-24 totals. However, he's a former 30-goal scorer in the WHL. The Calgary native skated in one preseason in September 2024.

Axel Hurtig (D) Calgary Hitmen (25 Points)

Axel Hurtig was a seventh-round pick (208th overall) from the 2023 Draft for the Flames. After skating in his native Sweden and playing seven games in the SHL, he came to North America this season and is skating with the Calgary Hitmen.

In 44 games, Hurtig has four goals and 13 points, earning a spot on Team Sweden at the 2025 World Junior Championships. He played seven games and had an assist.

In our next prospects check-in, we will check on the remaining six Flames prospects in the QMJHL, ECHL, MHL, and Liiga.
