With the Florida Panthers beating the Edmonton Oilers in the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, the Calgary Flames will now officially be picking the second of their two first-round picks at 32nd overall. Their earlier first-round pick is at 18th overall that came after the elimination of New Jersey and Montreal in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Flames have a problem on the offensive end. They had scored the fourth-lowest goals in the league and according to Natural Stat Trick, in terms of expected goals, the Flames ranked 12th-worst in 5v5.

So our choice for the 32nd pick: U.S. NTDP Centre William Moore

Moore ranks 34th in The Hockey News' Top 100 Draft Prospects list. You can buy the magazine here:

    The reasons for our pick:

For those who are unaware, players on the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP) play in the Under-17 or Under-18 teams. Last season, Moore played in the Under-18 team in a schedule against USHL teams, who are aged 16-20, NCAA teams that have no age limit and international countries.

Moore scored 27 goals and 59 points in 64 games during the 2024-25 season.

His goals and points total both would've tied for eighth in the USHL. Keep in mind, these are against players who are at the most three years older than him.

He had a stellar performance at the recent 2025 Under-18 World Junior Championship. His three goals and 11 points tied him for fifth in tournament scoring. In the bronze medal game, he ended the tournament sky high by registering three assists for Team USA in their 4-3 overtime victory against Slovakia.

When he's not scoring, he can break open defences by lasering passes through and creating scoring opportunities as evident by his 32 assists.

Defensively, he forces turnovers and is used in the penalty kill. He can develop that skill further down his career.

He is a bit lanky though, being 175lbs and 6'2.

Being enrolled at 'the' Boston College next season should help improve that and bring more out of him.
