The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 Sunday night at Lenovo Center.

It was quite the debut for the new guys as Mark Jankowski scored twice and Logan Stankoven grabbed the game winner to help lead the Canes to victory.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Jankowski. Stankoven and Scott Morrow, who registered his first career NHL point, spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:

    Rod Brind'Amour

On the new guys: That's great for them. Anytime you come somewhere new — we've talked about it enough already this year, those adjustments — but just to be able to contribute in that fashion, I think is really just a great way to start for them. Obviously it helps us with the win too, but now they can just relax and go about their business.

On Scott Morrow rotating defensive partners: We were juggling it around a little bit just based on [Dmitry Orlov] being out and trying to find a fit. They did a nice job back there.

On Frederik Andersen's performance: We didn't give up a ton, but there's always going to be some grade-As and looks and if you can shut the door on those, it doesn't allow the other team to get momentum and doesn't make us change anything we're doing. That was a solid performance.

On the penalty kill in the second period being a tipping point in the game: That was an important part of the game. Against that team, I don't feel like there's really ever a tipping point because there's a lot of weapons and you're kind of holding your breath every time certain guys get out there because you never know, but I thought tonight they had their chances, but we did a fairly good job against them.

On the power play: I thought they did well. Moved it around, had a lot of good looks. Probably should have shot a bit more, but we got the one which is just how it works. Not a pretty goal at all, but I think we need more of that. The pretty ones will come but you have to get the gritty ones too so that was nice to see.

On Jaccob Slavin: He's world class, as we know, and he was again tonight.

On Brent Burns turning 40: It's pretty impressive and I thought he was excellent tonight too. He's still moving along.

    Mark Jankowski

On having a hot start to his Carolina Hurricanes career: It was a great start obviously. There's a little bit of nerves coming into a new team, but everyone's just been so welcoming and it's been an easy transition so far.

On his first goal: It was a great pass by Scotty there and as soon as a turned and got my head up, I saw that I had quite a bit of time and space, so I was trying to get in as close as possible and then just try to sneak one by him.

On his goal scoring touch: I think a big part of it is confidence. Coming in here and playing with some great linemates. Everyone here, the team, has been unbelievable so coming into a contending team has been a lot of fun. Pretty exciting so far. So for me, just trying to do whatever I can to help the team win. Whether that's being good on the PK, being good in the faceoff dot, do the little things, be a two-way player and then I think I can provide some scoring touch as well.

On not trying to think too much and playing on feel: The systems are a little bit different, obviously, from team to team. But the staff's been great about showing us video and throwing stuff at us but also telling us to just go out and play. I think that's the biggest thing. They'll come grab you and do video between games and stuff or between shifts, they'll grab you and tell you to tweak something here or there, but the biggest thing they said was to just go out there and play.

On joining a competitor: When I first heard of it, I was a little shocked. I think I got the call two hours after the deadline had passed, so I was a little shocked at first, but once it all settled in and like I said, Carolina is a contending team, so it was super exciting to be joining a contending group like that in a push for the playoffs.

On being familiar already with both of his new linemates: I met those guys a few times before so it was easy to play with them and to be able to talk through things on the bench. They were helping me out on little system things here and there and faceoff stuff. Obviously great to have those two guys because they're hounding pucks, creating chances, making plays. So it was awesome to play with those two.

    Logan Stankoven

On scoring in his debut with a new team: It felt great. It's always nice to come in and contribute right away. I felt personally, that I can give a lot more. It definitely wasn't my best tonight and I know it's going to take a bit of time to get used to my linemates and the systems and what not. Just going to keep building, watching video with the coaches and keep learning.

On being a net-front player: At this level, it's so hard to beat goalies cleanly off of a shot, so I think for a lot of goals, you just have to go to the net and look for rebounds and create plays.

On his goal: It's about anticipating the play and when I saw that shot coming, you just want to get a shaft on it. It's so hard for goalies to track a puck when it gets deflected so that was just my goal there.

On adjusting to a new system: There's a lot of things that get thrown at you and you try to adapt as much as you can without thinking too much. It was a bit hard at times to try and not think too much. I'm trying to fit in and play hard with the guys. I'll just keep learning.

    Scott Morrow

On his first NHL point: It was pretty exciting. Had to refocus a bit after. A lot of game left, but definitely a great moment and a great shot by [Jankowski]. I passed it to the right guy.

On stepping in in the middle of a playoff race: It was nice that it was against a team I played against earlier this year, so some familiarity there, but I'm just trying to play with confidence and start off by doing my job and keeping it simple.

On his time in the AHL: It's definitely been good. The coaches down there have done a great job and I have a lot of good players to play with down there. It's a great environment to get better every day and playing a lot of games, you're going to get confidence naturally.

On if he tries to keep his game simple or show his offensive flair: I think keeping the puck out of your own net is your job and everything else I add is the bonus. Right now, I'm trying to show I can earn a job and when the offense comes, it comes, but stuff like the stretch pass today I'll try to keep doing.
