Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour delivered some positive news on the injury front Sunday afternoon.
Both Jordan Martinook and Jalen Chatfield did not finish Game 3 on Saturday, but both seem to be on track to play in Game 4 on Monday per Brind'Amour.
"It was pretty physical, but I think they're all that way at this time of the yea," Brind'Amour said. "I think we'll be okay."
When asked specifically about Martinook and Chatfield's availability for tomorrow he said he thinks both will be good.
Martinook blocked a shot from Pierre-Luc Dubois just past the halfway point of the third period and was visibly laboring back to the bench afterward.
He had to be helped down the runway a bit, but did not go back into the locker room and instead, came back out and took another shift.
However, that shift lasted just 16 seconds and he went straight back to the room after it and did not return to the game.
"Every shot is huge, I feel like, in the playoffs," said Andrei Svechnikov. "You never know. We were up 3-0, but 3-1 would be a different story. So that was a huge block by Marty and hopefully he'll be okay."
The veteran forward has been a huge piece of the team this postseason, with a goal and four points on top of playing key shutdown minutes at both 5v5 and the penalty kill.
Chatfield played just three shifts in the third period, with his last coming with 11:33 still to go in the game.
The speedy blueliner leads the team in hits taken (28) this postseason, so he's certainly taken a beating, but the Hurricanes certainly need him as he ranks third on the team in 5v5 ice time and he's been a crucial part of the team's defense.
That only leaves Mark Jankowski as the final remaining question mark. After sustaining an injury in Game 1 in Washington, Jankowski has been out of the lineup, with Jack Roslovic instead sliding in.
Brind'Amour stated that the centerman is still "a little banged up," and that they're waiting on him to give them the green light that he's back to 100%.
Luckily for Carolina, health seems to be on their side for now.
"Health is huge at this time of the year," Brind'Amour said. "You look at the last series, a team that was nicked up and missing three top players. It's hard to win if you're not healthy at this time of year. You can get by in a game or two, but over a seven game series, it's going to show up. We've dealt with that over the last six years in the playoffs. Missing key guys, that's the difference. Literally a play here or there almost every night that decides it. So when you can have your full group, that gives you your best chance."
