This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.

Today, we look at 11-year vet Joel Armia.

    Target: Joel Armia - RW - Age: 32 - 11 Years Experience

The Buffalo Sabres drafted Joel Armia with the 16th pick of the 2011 NHL Draft. After coming to North America from Finland in 2013, he would only manage to play a single game for Buffalo before he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets in 2015, where he would play three seasons. In 2018, Armia was traded again, this time to the Montreal Canadiens, where he's been ever since.

    Stats

Armia played 81 games for the Habs last season. He scored 11 goals and had 29 points. He also scored 3 power play goals, 3 shorthanded goals, and had a game-winner. His 29 points were one off of his career high of 30. Armia is averaging 29 points per 82 games played, so last season was right on par for him.

    Previous Salary

Armia signed a four-year, $13.6 million dollar deal with Montreal in July of 2021. Contract experts put his next deal at $2.5 million per season for two years.

Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Luke Warm

Joel Armia would actually be a decent bottom six pick up for the Blue Jackets. He's got decent size at 6'3'', 216lbs, and he can provide some goals when needed. He only has a career high of 17, he always seems to score when needed.

With the Blue Jackets potentially losing six or more forwards to free agency, they'll need to replace them with someone, and Armia seems like a guy that could fill that role very nicely.
